Homework Help

A new homework packet went home today, and many of you are probably wondering about the Chinese worksheet. Hopefully this brief explanation will help.
The first page is a grid for writing characters. Please encourage your child to copy the characters proportionally and use the correct stroke order.
1) The first line breaks down the stroke order for the characters 工作 (gōng zuò), which means work.
2) The second line reads, "What work does he do?" as in asking about someone's occupation.
3) The third line breaks down the stroke order for the first character in 医生, which means doctor.
4) The fourth line says, "He is a doctor."
5) The last line breaks down the stroke order for the character 做, which means "to do," as in "What does he DO (for a  living)?"
The second page contains four questions. Their translation is below:
1. Where is the apple?
  a. The apple is on top of the table.
  b. The able is below the table.
2. Where is the apple?
  a. The apple is behind the caterpillar.
  b. The apple is in front of the caterpillar.
3. What does your dad do for work? He is a ________.
4. What does your mom do for work? She is a ________.
If your child does not know the Chinese word for a specific occupation, you may want to help them look it up using an online dictionary like Google Translate, nciku.com, or http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php.
Thanks, Miss Moore
